The Winter Immunisation Campaign together with the Covid Booster Vaccine for the over 80’s will commence in the Clinic in early October. Appointments will be dependent on the supply of the vaccine to be made available to us by the HSE. We are prioritising our over 80-year-old patients as they need covid and flu vaccine this year.

The administration of the vaccine will broadly fall into 4 main groupings.
- Flu Vaccine & Covid-19 Booster for Patients over 80 years of age
We will be administering the Covid -19 vaccine booster and Influenza Vaccination to people aged 80 at the same time.
Appointment times will issue to patients’ mobile phone by test message over the coming weeks.

The vaccines are free of charge to all regardless of whether you hold a Medical Card, Doctor Visit Card or are a private patient.
- Flu vaccine for patients aged between 65 and 79 years of age

- At risk patients aged between 18 and 64 years or 6 to 23 months of age
Patients within the following specified groups should receive the flu vaccine.
- Chronic Respiratory Disease (including COPD, cystic fibrosis, moderate or severe asthma and bronchopulmonary dysplasia).
- Pregnant woman – at any stage of pregnancy.
- Chronic Heart Disease.
- Chronic Renal Failure.
- Chronic Liver Disease.
- Chronic Neurological Disease.
- Immunosuppressed (due to disease or treatment including all patients with active cancer diagnosis).
- Household contacts or home career to persons with increased medical risk*.
- Diabetes Mellitus.

- Patients aged 2 to 17 years of age

We are awaiting further information regarding the supply of these vaccines from the HSE.

Other categories of patient
In addition to the above, patients from the following groups are also eligible to receive an influenza vaccine from their GP.
- Residents of Nursing Homes and other long stay facilities
- Healthcare workers
- Household contacts of people aged 65 and over, aged 2 to 17 years of age or people with any of the above underlying conditions or Down Syndrome
- Out of Home Care Givers
